DataGrail’s Employee Spotlight series highlights the person behind the professional, digging deep and discovering what drives our team members.

This week’s spotlight features Sarah Cirone, a technical solutions engineer joining the customer success team at DataGrail. Sarah has prior experience in ensuring product quality through engineering, working as a Lead QA Engineer at StyleSeat and a Test Engineer at Node.io.

What excites you about joining the DataGrail team?

Where do I start! The privacy space is incredibly interesting to me due to its completely under-represented nature in the US. I’m stoked to be a part of solving a problem that every person will run into - ownership over their personal data.

What's your role at DataGrail, and how do you see yourself growing over the next 2 years?

I am a Technical Solutions Engineer here at DataGrail! I see this role further solidifying the communication between Customer Success and the rest of the company (Engineering, Product, Sales) and, for myself, growing my knowledge of this space to support that communication and quality of onboarding over the next few years.

I have grand visions for a sub-team of Solutions Engineers to support this as well and having a hand at leading that team in supporting the amazing business current DataGrail employees have already built.

What has been your favorite project or challenge you’ve worked on in your career?

One of my favorite projects was one at my previous company, StyleSeat, where we ended up building something functionally new, optimizing agile-ly with decision-making and producing something customers had been asking for for years. That one is highlighted in my mind because it emphasized to me what can be produced when there is an outside demand for something and a continuous willingness to optimize. I already see this within DataGrail and it is so exciting to be able to keep adding to those favorited projects!

How has your passion and education in statistics played a role in your career?

All the Data! I’ve always been a math geek and thinking in numbers has just made sense to me. Fast forward to the present, majoring in statistics in college gave me the context I needed to make sense of the numbers I’d always loved and taught me to question the data around me. The beautiful thing about data to me is that it’s everywhere - it’s just the ways you choose to look at it that are different based on the questions you’re trying to answer.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I have a secret (not so secret anymore I guess!) dream of being able to open a fridge or a cabinet and create a wildly delicious meal from its contents. I’m working on my cooking skills as we speak and this is a definite to-do!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

A transplant from Boston, I love rooting for the New England Patriots almost as much as enjoying the lack of wintery days on the west coast. I’m a lover of the ocean, caffeine and exploring - you’ll either find me surfing my face off at Ocean Beach or spelunking on hidden trails and mountains throughout California. I’ve ended up creating a hobby out of fermenting different liquors from fruits (ode to my Italian roots) and have also recently discovered the beauty of credit card points, which I’ve stretched to take me to all the surf spots possible across the world (Bali next fingers crossed!)
